ceo to ceo

finally, a recession!

To say that I’m sick to my back teeth (where did that phrase come from?) about the recession mongering is a massive understatement.

It seems that just about anything can be blamed on the recession. Lucky us. Now we don’t have to take responsibility for things not working out and lets’ face it, this reason is a compelling and believable victim of our blame.

It’s interesting, the correlation between lack of success and openness to blaming something else for the fact that we aren’t. Successful people don’t do this. Successful people, right now, are too busy rolling around in the hay of all the opportunities that others are missing because they’re too busy being a part of this self somewhat fulfilling prophecy.

doing it alone = certain failure (ctd)

Last month we looked at how the small biz owner is geared toward independence. The result of this is that fundamental business needs are not being met. This month we complete our focus on the small business owner’s tendency toward Isolation by examining more solutions.

Firstly a brief recap; last month we outlined three steps to changing this unhelpful modus operandi. The first step was to think differently, or to acknowledge the fact that you can’t do it alone. This could well be the hardest step. Look around you, people don’t do this with ease (but they also don’t’ get a great business).

doing it alone = certain failure

Human nature sure is unhelpful at times.

What we know about the brain, from many fields but more recently from the field of neuroscience, is that we are physiologically geared toward autonomy. So science confirms what we’ve come to be frustrated about in others and ourselves.

the going got tough…

It seems that we have a compulsive revulsion to hard times in our western society. So it’s no surprise that our thinking seems to be fundamentally connected to a notion that dictates ‘my life will be great, when I have no problems’… This thinking pervades every part of our lives and our biz is no exception. What an enormous waste…

wanted: 1 CEO for your biz

I know most small business owners wouldn’t dream of calling themselves ‘ceo’ but it’s what the title means that I’d like to focus on as this is critical, yes critical if you really want to grow your business.

there’s a secret to success?

If you’re like most of us frail humans, now’s about the time that the promise of ‘doing things differently this year’ is starting to rapidly become a memory. But hang in there, it doesn’t have to be that way, this year could actually pan out just the way you want it.

congrats, 2007 went exactly as you planned!

To those of you who actually did plan, my genuine congratulations to you!

For the rest of us however, the unwritten plan of ‘doing the same thing and expecting a different result’ inevitably brought the same result as when we last tried that strategy, even if we did work harder than ever!
